Anchor a.k.a. "Jump" Links in Email Messages

You can create Anchor of "jump" links within an Eloqua Email using Eloqua's Custom Code Design Component.

Using these intermediary links, especially if you have a longer newsletter, can help your readers navigate to specific parts of your messaging more easily.

While using these jump/anchor links does require using the “custom code” option in the Eloqua builder, the method is somewhat straightforward, once you become familiar with the simple formula.

And once you have created an email with this custom code, remember you can save it up to a Template to be easily adapted for future emails and easily shared with others.

Step 1: Insert the Custom Code component in the Design Canvas

With your Email Asset open in Eloqua, where you want your reader to "jump" to.  This screenshot indicates how to select the Custom Code content element on the left navigation list and drag it to the specific location you need in your Eloqua email.

Step 2: Copy and insert or type this sample code into the Custom Code field:

<a name="topic1"></a>

Where "topic1" is your chosen name of the anchor link. You can use any words or letters inbetween the quotation marks as long as there are no spaces or special characters.

This screenshot shows how it should look in Eloqua (see the code in the black custom section below):

And here is a close-up of that code in Eloqua:

Code Close Up <a name-"topic1></a>

*Note there IS a space between the a and name.

Use this code, swapping in the name of your Anchor link for the green text that says, "topic1" above. The name of the anchor will not be visible to the reader.

Step 3: Now go back and highlight the text you want to use for your link, and insert the link using the text editor menu.

Choose, "Webpage" for link type and in the Web Address URL field, type "#" followed by the name of the anchor link you used (in green text above).

i.e.

#topic1

Repeat this process to include more links.  Be sure to use the exact code specified here, though you can change the "topic1" green starter text with any words that are relevant to your email/project.

Save and test your email to double-check proper functionality.
