Requesting Minnesota Background Study
Students participating in clinical rotations in Minnesota may be asked to complete a Minnesota Background Study through the Minnesota Department of Human Services (MN DHS). This is in addition to the criminal background check and Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check required by SMPH programs. The cost for completing the study is $44. Students may also have to complete fingerprinting. The cost for fingerprinting varies by vendor, but is around $10.
Steps for initiating background study:
- Provide student with the MN Background Study Instructions.
- Students will need to follow all instructions and visit https://netstudy2.dhs.state.mn.us/Applicant to initiate the study.
- Once initiated, email SMPH Compliance Specialist (ckforrester@wisc.edu) with the student's name so they can review and submit the study to MN DHS.
- If student is required to be fingerprinted, they will be notified via email with instructions on how and where to complete fingerprinting.
- The background study clearance will be available to the student once complete. If they are unable to pull the clearance report, please email SMPH Compliance Specialist (ckforrester@wisc.edu) to provide a copy.
