Platform X: Transfer Data Between Virtual Machines

Instructions for how to transfer data between two virtual machines on Platform X.

Virtual Machines (VMs) that share a Storage Account are able to have data transferred between the two machines following the steps outlined below. VMs must share the same project (found in the project tag in Azure) in order to utilize this type of data transfer. Typically a PI group with multiple VMs are on the same project and have a shared storage account.

  1. Start and Connect to the Virtual Machine that contains the data you would like to transfer
  2. Open Microsoft Azure Data Storage and log in
  3. Move the data into the "Working" storage container on your shared Storage Account by navigating to the "Working" container and selecting "Upload"

Use the upload option to move the data into the working storage container

4. Log off

5. Stop the VM if no other users are connected

6. Start and Connect to the Virtual Machine that you would like to transfer the data to

7. Open Microsoft Azure Data Storage and log in

8. Navigate to the "Working" storage account and download into the local file you would like it on

Use the download option to move the data from the working storage container to the VM's disk storage
