Using the UWSC remote testing server
To open a remote desktop connection on a Windows machine:
- Click the start bottom on your computer
- In the search box type: remote desktop connection
- In the list of results click on: Remote Desktop Connection
- In the computer field type: laboratory.uwsc.wisc.edu
- Click Connect
- If you have a netid, enter your username and password
- user ID: AD.WISC.EDU\netid
- password:
- If you don't have a netid, let a project director know and we'll get you a login.
- user ID: UWSC-LAB-2012\[the user name the pd gave you]
- password: (will be sent by secure email)
- Then click OK
To open up a remote desktop connection on a Mac:
- Required: use this free application, NOT the built in remote desktop application. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12&ign-mpt=uo%3D4
- Click the New button with the plus icon in the upper left corner of the application
- Specify the following in the window which pops up
- Connection name: laboratory.uwsc.wisc.edu
- PC name: laboratory.uwsc.wisc.edu
- User name: ad.wisc.edu\netid
- Password: password
- (Optional) Clear the "Start session in full screen" checkbox
- Close the window which opened
- Double click the connection you just created.
Once connected, there should be an project icon on your desktop. Opening that will launch the instrument. If you don't see a project icon or run into another issue, please contact the project director.
Both Mac and Windows users: please use the start menu to log off. This frees up resources on the testing server for other users.
- Time limit for disconnected sessions (e.g. hitting X and not logging off): 30 min
- Time limit for active but idle remote desktop sessions: 1 hr
- Time limit for active remote desktop sessions: 8 hours
Note: Windows XP is not supported. Mac OS 10.11.2 is supported (other versions may work).
