Law School Email Lists
The class lists are populated in late August using university records of Academic Level (e.g.1L, 2L and 3L based on credits, not number of semesters). These lists are frozen until the following fall, at which point all lists will be updated to reflect the current academic level as of late August.
This system works well for most students; however, the assigned listserv might be insufficient for students who have gone part-time for one or more semesters, taken time off, or otherwise taken a non-traditional path through law school. For example, if you are a part-time student who started a year ago, you were probably automatically assigned to the 1L listserv, but many of the 2L emails might also apply to you. If you believe multiple listservs apply to you, please email help@law.wisc.edu indicating the listserv that you are currently assigned to (it will show up in the subject line of the mass emails you receive), and to which listserv you would like to be added.
Students who graduate in December and May will stay on the lists to see important OCPD announcements until end of August.
Your Academic Record shows your academic level for each semester, including the current term. If your academic level changes during the school year you will remain on the email list on which you began the year which typically has the most relevant information. View the UW Registrar's "How To" for Academic Records.
Lots of important information will be disseminated via the class listservs. Accordingly, students are expected to check their wisc.edu email inboxes each business day during the academic year.
