P2PE - Activenet

Activenet is a web-based point-of-sale system that runs off a Windows computer. The Activenet Workstation Service is an installed application that acts a middleman between the web interface and attached devices like the receipt printer, ID scanner, and credit card reader.

    How Activenet Works

    • Wheelhouse staff log into their POS site here in a browser:  https://anprod.active.com/minicourses/servlet/adminlogin.sdi
    • The Activenet Workstation Service must be installed and running as a Windows service as this is what facilitates communication from the Activenet site to the attached devices
    • For the card reader to work its COM port number from Device Manager and connection type (USB/TCPIP) needs to match with what is entered into the Admin > Settings > Workstations portion of the Activenet site
    • For the printer to work its COM port number from Device Manager or the Epson utility needs to match with what is entered into the Admin > Settings > Workstations >Front Desk portion of the Activenet site

    Peripherals

    • Epson Receipt Printer:  USB
    • Symbol Barcode/ID Scanner:  USB
    • PAX A35 Credit Card Reader:  USB and Network
    • Wiscard Payment Terminal (not managed by us; has its own network connection)

    Troubleshooting

    • Credit Card Reader not working
      • Find out what the error message is that is being seen on the credit card reader and the Activenet site
      • A "not responding" or "timeout" error is usually related to a communications problem between the computer AKA Activenet Workstation Service and the card reader
      • Make sure the COM port number seen in Device Manager for the card reader lines up with what is set in the Activenet site under Admin > Settings >Workstations > Front Desk
      • The PAX A35 oddly shows up as using three COM ports; as of this writing they are COM8, COM9, and COM10 with COM9 being the one that worked when entered into the Activenet site
      • You can also always try uninstalling/reinstalling the Activenet Workstation Service; the most recent version is available online for download
