ACADEMIC STAFF ASSEMBLY SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES

2:30 to 2:45 p.m.

Vice Provost for Faculty and Staff Affairs Kent Weigel called the meeting to order at 2:31 p.m.

Resolution to Establish a Mutual Defense Compact for the Universities of the Big Ten Academic Alliance in Defense of Academic Freedom, Institutional Integrity, and the Research Enterprise (ASA #850)

Nicole Senter, ASEC member, moved approval of ASA Document #850 with an amendment to add a whereas clause, as the second whereas clause: “Whereas, the current administration and aligned individuals have signaled a willingness to target institutions with legal, financial, and political incursion designed to undermine their public mission, silence dissenting voices, and/or exert improper control over academic inquiry.” Seconded. Frankie Frank (District #272) moved to amend the second whereas clause by adding the word ‘federal’ between ‘current’ and ‘administration.’ Seconded. Amendment approved. Vote on main motion as amended. Approved.
