UW-Madison Policy on Institutional and Public Position Statements
Pursuant to the UW-Madison policy on Institutional and Public Position Statements, the Law School administration may not make "statements about matters of public controversy or concern."
Accordingly, students should not expect the Law School to make statements about such matters. Nevertheless, the Law School recognizes that our silence might frustrate students at times and that "matters of public controversy or concern" often have a profound impact on our students. Please do not interpret our silence as a lack of concern or empathy — we care deeply about how these matters impact our students and we encourage impacted students to utilize these resources. If you need help navigating these resources or you need support, please contact the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
Please note that this policy does not limit other members of the University community — including students and registered student organizations — from expressing their views. To the contrary: students and registered student organizations are encouraged to use their voices to articulate their points of view in response to such matters, especially those that are central to their missions.
