Generate SWSD Web Token for SWSD AssetUI

Instructions for CALS IT staff to generate a web token for use in the SWSD AssetUI app.

The CALS IT SWSD AssetUI app used for editing inventory utilizes the Solarwinds ITSM API.   A JSON Web Token is used to authenticate with this API.   Each CALS IT staff member needs to generate their own web token and save it (securely*) in the app.

  1. Navigate to the Users area in Solarwinds ServiceDesk.

  2. Search for your name, and click on it to view the User panel

  3. Select the Actions menu, and select Generate JSON Web Token from the menu.

  4. Find the new JSON Web Token option in the user details.   Click Show.

  5. Click Copy.

  6. Paste into the SWSD AssetUI form and click Save Token

You should now be able to use the SWSD AssetUI app.

* The web token is encrypted by the web server before being stored in the CALS MySQL database. The encryption keys are stored in Azure Blob Storage, and automatically rotated every 3 months.
