Check for the Windows 11 Update
- Open up Settings

- Go to Windows Update

- Click Download and install and the process will begin. Let it go and when your computer restarts you'll be on Windows 11.

- If you don't see this update option please contact the help desk (support@wcer.wisc.edu) and we can give you the Windows 11 update file to download and you can follow the steps in the Downloaded Windows 11 Update.
Free Up Space on C: drive
- Check your available space. Open up the File Explorer and click on This PC and look at your Local Disk (C):. You need to have at least 32GB available.

- If you have less than 32GB available you need to free up space. The first thing to check is to clean out your downloads folder and empty the recycle bin. Delete what you don't need in your downloads folder and right click on the Recycle Bin on your desktop and click on Empty Recycle Bin.

- If you need more space use the Disk Cleanup tool.

- Click on Clean up system files. This will scan your computer and find what files can be deleted.

- Scroll the list of file locations. Make sure that there is a check in the box for any location that lists a 1GB or more in disk space. Click OK to delete the files

- If you still need more space made available consider moving files (at least temporarily) to Box, OneDrive, Google Drive or the network file storage.
Downloaded Windows 11 Update
- This process assumes you have already downloaded the file from the Help Desk. If you haven't please contact support@wcer.wisc.edu for a link to download the Windows 11 Update.
- Open the Winows11_Education_24H2 file that you got from us. Click Open if you get the security warning.

- Click on Setup. Click Yes to allow this app to make changes to your device.

- Click Next to start the installation process.

This window will pop up and run for several minutes.
- Click Accept to accept the terms. After this it might take a while for it to run updates.

- After the updates have installed it will be ready to install. Click Install to start the process.

- Your computer will start the install process. It will take a while so just leave it be and it'll restart when it's done.

- Your computer will restart when the update is complete. Log in with your same credentials. You should see your name appear right away and it'll start building your profile. This process might take a while and you'll see the dots spinning on the screen. This is normal. It will log you in.
- Once you're logged in go to your downloads and delete the Windows11_Education_24H2.iso file. It is no longer needed.
