How to Setup/Login to a MRA Phone

This KB details step by step instructions on how to setup your MRA phone once received at a remote site. These instructions are written for Cisco 7800 and 8800 series phones. ***NOTE*** This setup process only applies to phones that are setup in locations that are considered 'off campus'. If you have questions as to whether your phone falls under this category, contact your local IT department or contact the DoIT help desk.
  1.  Power on the phone by ensuring the device is connected to power (either by using a power adapter connection or via power over ethernet). Ensure the phone is connected to the local network by plugging an Ethernet cable into the network port of the phone. Refer the picture below as a reference on proper installation of these cables:

  2. When the phone boots up you should see a message asking if you would like to change the service mode on the device. Press the middle button before the 10 second timer expires on the device to continue.

    1. If you were not able to press the button in time, you can always turn the device off by taking out the power cable and plug it back in. This will prompt the message again.

    2. If you did not see the message initially, follow the instructions below in order to prompt the aforementioned message:

      1. For 7800 phones (7841s,7811s, etc.): Press the settings button, and then go to Settings > Admin Settings (5) > Reset Settings (5) > Service Mode (4) > Reset.

      2. For 8800 Phones (8851s): Press the settings button, and then go to Settings > Admin Settings (7) > Reset Settings (5) > Service Mode (4) > Reset

      3. Upon completing either step i or ii, the end user will see the Cisco splash screen, shortly followed by a prompt to enter an activation code or service domain. Ensure to press the middle button to proceed with the login procedure.

  3.  Using the phone dial-pad and accompanying alphanumeric and symbol softkeys, enter wisc.edu as the service domain.

  4. Enter the username and pin for your device. This will differ from device to device.

    1. If this device is your personal phone, you will likely be authenticating via your netID username and password.

    2. If this is a general area or shared device, there should be a login slip within the box of your MRA phone. If you do not have record of the username and password for the device, contact either your local IT staff or the DoIT helpdesk and someone will be able to provide the missing credentials or assist you with the login process.
