Known Issue: Thunderbird, M365, and Campus Wireless Network

This documents an issue and workarounds for users unable to send M365 emails using Thunderbird on the campus wireless network.

Note: Thunderbird is Best Effort Support Only. Microsoft does not recommend these clients for use with Office 365, and there are often significant limitations in client functionality as a result. For the best experience, please use Outlook or Outlook on the web.

Problem: Users are unable to send emails from their campus M365 account using Thunderbird on the campus wireless network.

Workaround 1: Use one of the Microsoft supported solutions: Outlook or Outlook on the Web

Workaround 2: Change Thunderbird settings

  1. Open the Thunderbird Settings.
  2. Navigate to the General tab.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click on Config Editor to open about:config.
  4. Search for the preference setting "security.tls.enable_kyber" and set its value to false.
