University Committee Meeting Minutes 2025-12-01

Minutes for December 1, 2025

UC members present: Bernard-Donals, Chui, de Leon, Jones, Kendall, Mathieu

Others present: Greg Bump, Becky Jacobs, Sabine Martin, Jennifer Noyes, Julie Scharm

Chair Jones called the meeting to order at 1:45 pm.

Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(c) and (f) to discuss waivers at 1:45 pm. One dual-role request was approved.

Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to reconvene in open session at 2:01 pm.

The minutes from the November 24, 2025, meeting were approved with several corrections.

University Committee member Bob Mathieu reported he had met with Dorota to discuss regular meetings of the University Research Council.

The University Committee approved sending a response to the School of Education regarding their request for some flexibility due to federal funding changes and scientists working in Wisconsin Center for Educational Research.

Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin shared that commencement is coming up in two weeks. This year’s speaker is Grace Vanderhei, a UW-Madison alum who was Miss America 2023. She also shared information about the celebration of career event held on campus for Dean Emerita Linda Scott, who passed away recently.

In regards to leadership searches, the provost search is underway with listening sessions held last month. The dean of the School of Nursing search is also underway. An offer for the Entrepreneurship Hub Director should be made soon, and the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management search was unsuccessful.

The Wisconsin Exchange was announced to think about how to live and learn in a world where they are many differences of opinion. The program will offer seed grants and a postdoc program.

Jones adjourned the meeting at 3:10 pm.
