Sharing data via Globus and Restricted Drive
Restricted Drive
The UW restricted drive is where we put data to share it with the other project collaborators. This is different than "the SMNG drive" managed by the Waisman Center, which is where we normally store data. (Any of the data that UW puts on the Restricted Drive will also be on the SMNG drive.)
Granting access
Currently only UW-Madison researchers can have direct access to the restricted drive.
Access to the restricted drive is managed through the Manifest. The lab manager or PI can give another UW-Madison user access. The specific folder for Ben's restricted drive is uw:app:researchdrive:pis:bparrell .
Mapping the restricted drive to your computer
Once a user has access to the Restricted Drive, to map the restricted drive to their work computer, they can use any of these methods with one exception. Anywhere that it mentions connecting to "research.drive" or whatever, replace the word "research" with "restricted".
Globus
Globus (globus.org) is a web based, front end interface for accessing data on the restricted drive. That means that Globus is showing the same data that appears in the restricted drive. Within Globus, you can upload, download, or view the file structure of research data.
Access to Globus
For non-UW researchers, Globus is the only way to access data on the restricted drive. Slack or send an email to Chris Naber <cwnaber@wisc.edu> and mention the email address that should be granted access to Globus.
Getting to the cerebellar-battery folder in Globus
The data folders are called "collections" in Globus, and Ben's restricted drive collection is called wisc-restricted-bparrell.
- Once logged into Globus, click File Manager on the left sidebar.
- Click the Collection search bar
- Either type in wisc-restricted-bparrell in the search, or click Shared With You below
