University Committee Meeting Minutes 2026-03-02
Minutes for March 2, 2026

Chair Annie Jones called the meeting to order at 12:31 pm.
Christa Olson, chair of the Committee on Committees, presented some possible changes to FPP Chapter 6 in regard to nominations for committee slates from the senate floor. In addition, the committee has been discussing ways to energize interest in shared governance.
The minutes from February 23, 2026, meeting were approved.
Bernard-Donals motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(c) and (f) to discuss waivers and committee appointments at 12:52 pm. Four tenure clock extensions and one leave of absence were approved.
Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to reconvene in open session at 2:30 pm.
Chancellor Mnookin shared news about a $30 million lead gift from Kohl Philanthropies benefiting the La Follette School of Public Affairs. The donation will go towards programming and renovations of Music Hall, which will be renamed Herb Kohl Hall. The University Opera will move its performances to the union theater.
There are no known next cases for the measles case on campus and the 21 day active period has passed. In reaction to the case, UW-Madison has a new policy that students must disclose their vaccination status. That collection process is underway.
The Provost finalists visited last week. The chancellor is gathering feedback and expects to make a decision in the near future. Once the provost is announced, interim leadership for the College of Letters and Science will be determined. The Board of Regents is starting to think about their process to hire a permanent chancellor.
The website regarding federal immigration enforcement has been updated, and it is being translated into other languages.
Jones adjourned the meeting at 3:11 pm.
