Accessing Law School network drives remotely (Windows)

This document explains how to connect to Law School network drives remotely from a computer running Microsoft Windows

Accessing Law School network drives remotely (off campus) is basically a 2-step process.  First, you need to establish a VPN connection to the campus.  Second, connect to the server share.  With both processes, there is a little preparation needing to be done first.

PREPARATION - Downloading and installing VPN software

VPN software is provided by DoIT.  Since it is a campus resource available to all UW students and employees, support for VPN software is provided by DoIT.  Here is DoIT's webpage with instructions on how to download and install the VPN software:

PREPARATION - Downloading a batch file to connect to the Law School network drive

You will need to download a batch file to connect to a Law School network drive:

http://law.wisc.edu/help/for_students/remote_access_win.html

*Please note when downloading the batch file:  the username is your NetID.

Step 1:  Establish a VPN connection.

Launch DoIT's VPN software and authenticate with your campus NetID and password.

Step 2:  Connect to server

Download the batch file corresponding to the correct drive here: http://law.wisc.edu/help/for_students/remote_access_win.html. Launch the downloaded batch file. In the window, you will be prompted to enter your password. This will be your NetID password, but will NOT see it being typed in.
