KB User's Guide - SitePref Tab - Site Header and Site Footer

You must have full user permissions for your space to perform these steps.

This document will review how, those with the appropriate permissions, may create and enable site headers and site footers.

Site Header

To create a Site Header in the KB Admin Tools, go to the Site Pref tab > Site Header link.

From there, you will be presented with the Site Headers screen.

You will see two sections:

  • Internal Site Header
  • External Site Header

...each with their own text entry box. You may enter a distinct alert banner for each site. Enter the text that you would like to relate to your users in the box provided. Use HTML to decorate the text as you wish. Enter an Activation time and an Expiration time and click on the Update button to save your changes. You may click on the Expire now link and the Expiration field will auto-populate to the current date/hour/second. Should you click on the Never expire link, the Expiration field will auto-populate to 3000-01-01 00:00:00.

Site header content / banner will be displayed at the end of the main site header section, which is typically under the logo and search box. The default background color is pink and the default text color is a dark gray.

Change the Background Color of the Banner

Those with full Site Admin rights can change the background color:

  • Navigate to KB Admin Tools > SitePref tab > FullView Layout/CSS link
  • Determine the site in which you would like to change the banner color (e.g. the Internal Site Layout / CSS section or the External Site Layout / CSS section).
  • Enter the code snippet below in the appropriate Site custom CSS field. (e.g. Internal site custom CSS Two)
  • #header-banner { background: #XXXXXX none repeat scroll 0 0; border: 1px solid #XXXXXX; margin: 10px 12px -2px 10px; padding: 15px; }

  • Replace #XXXXXX with the hex colors of your choice.
  • Click on the Update button to save your changes.
  • Look at your live site and see what you think.

Below is a sample alert banner, where #XXXXXX was replaced with #CCCC00.

Decorate your the Alert Banner

You may decorate your alert banner in any number of creative ways. Using this code snippet in the Site Header text box:

<table style="background: #666666; margin-bottom: 10px; border: 1px solid #000;" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="15" border="0">
<td align="center"><span style="color: #fff; font-weight: boldest; font-size: 24px;">We will be closed on<br />Labor Day</span></td>
<td style="color: #fff;" valign="middle" align="left"><span style="font-weight: bolder;">Please know:</span> We will resume our regular hours, 7am to 6pm, on Tuesday, September 6, 2016</td>

In the image below from our demo site, the code snippet was placed in the Internal Site Header field.

This code snippet will yield a differently formatted Alert Banner than the one above. The image below shows the HTML code displaying a responsive one row table with two columns with specific background colors and font colors.

Site Footers

This section allows KB Site Admins the ability to specify what info is included in the Footer of their KB site. With the correct permissions, one can specify footer info for the internal and external site separately.

To add, modify, or delete Footers go to the SitePref tab in KB Admin Tools. Click on Footers link on the left navigation links. Click Update at the bottom of the page to save changes.

From this screen, you can also:

  1. Enable Facebook Plugin - Share your data with friends on Facebook.
  2. Enable Google Analytics - Generate detailed statistics about traffic, measures, etc.
  3. Google Analytics IP Masking - Removes the last octet of the user's IP address prior to its use and storage. This slightly reduces the accuracy of the geographic reporting.
  4. Google Analytics tracking ID - Field where you enter your own, distinct Google Analytics tracking ID number.
