Capital building project process
This document provides contact information and links to other documents concerning remodeling and capital building projects and processes in L&S.
All potential remodeling projects, regardless of potential costs should begin with consultation with Chris Bruhn and your Academic Associate Dean. Based on this initial discussion, a decision will be made as to appropriate routing of the project. Capital building projects are defined as $185,000 or more in total cost. (Projects less than $185,000 are administered by Physical Plant in FP&M.) If clearly over the $185,000 FP&M project limit, Chris Bruhn will consult with FP&M to assign a team that will work with you to develop the project concept further, discuss potential costs, funding sources and timing.
It is important to note the lead time on projects over $185,000 but less than $2 million is typically a minimum of eighteen months. For larger projects, the lead time can be multiple years depending on scope, cost, funding sources, site considerations among other issues. If a project is to be fully funded via gift sources, FP&M and UW System have a process that can expedite the process. Consult with Chris for more information.
The L&S Dean oversees the development of the L&S biennial capital budget program for new construction or building-wide renovation. Project priorities are based on urgency, project and site readiness, the L&S and campus master plans and funding considerations. Please contact Chris Bruhn with any questions.
