L&S Emeritus Status

This summarizes the process for requesting emeritus status for retiring faculty, limited appointees, academic staff, or university staff members in the College of Letters & Science.

Recommendations for emeritus/emerita status for retiring faculty, limited appointees, academic staff, or university staff usually begin at the department level (through the executive committee, when necessary) and proceed through the Dean's office to the Chancellor. For additional information regarding eligibility and other details related to emeritus/emerita status, see Appendix 20-B

Recommendations for emeritus status should include the following information:

  • A narrative summary citing the professional accomplishments and record of university service of the retiring faculty or staff member;
  • Copy of retirement letter

Your request will be reviewed and then sent on to the Office of Human Resources (OHR).  OHR will forward to the Chancellor's office for final review and signature.  This process can take anywhere from four to ten weeks to complete.  Please consider this time frame when submitting your request.

Faculty requests should be sent to Dan Lawrence.  Staff Requests should be sent to your HR Business Partner.
