Bucky Backup - Download, Install, and Configure the Bucky Backup Client (Mac)

This document explains how to download, install, and configure DoIT's Bucky Backup client, Lite or Enterprise, for Mac OS X.

Before you can start using the Bucky Backup Client (Lite or Enterprise), you must download, install and configure the client:

Note: This document assumes you have already registered for Bucky Backup. If you have not done that yet, please see: Bucky Backup - Getting Started.

  1. Download the Bucky Backup Client
  2. Install the Bucky Backup Client on Mountain Lion and newer
  3. Install the Bucky Backup Client (Snow Leopard and Lion)
  4. Configure the Bucky Backup Client for the First Time

Download the Bucky Backup Client

  1. Download the latest version of the Bucky Backup Client:

Note: Mountain Lion added a new feature that changes the way you need to run the installer for the Bucky Backup client. This only impacts users using Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and newer.

  1. If you try to run the Tivoli Storage Manager.mpkg installer you will get an error stating that the installer can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Click OK.

  2. To successfully start the installer you will need to hold Control + mouse click on the Tivoli Storage Manager.mpkg. This will bring up a menu of options. Click Open.

  3. You should now see a message asking if you are sure you want to open the installer. Click Open.

  4. The rest of the installation process is the same as Snow Leopard and Lion. Please continue the instructions starting at step 2 in the below section "Install the Bucky Backup Client (Snow Leopard and Lion)".

Install the Bucky Backup Client (Snow Leopard and Lion)

  1. Run the Tivoli Storage Manager.mpkg installer. An installation wizard will launch.

  2. At the Introduction section, click Continue.

  3. After reading the Read Me section, click Continue.

  4. At the Installation Type section, you can choose a different install location by clicking Change Install Location, choose Customize to do a custom install of Bucky Backup, or simply click Install to accept the defaults.

  5. You will be asked for your Mac OS X administrative username and password.

  6. The install will begin. Once it has completed, click Close.

Configure the Bucky Backup Client for the First Time

    1. Find the Tivoli Storage Manager folder on your computer. Usually located in your Applications folder.
      • Note: If you are an existing user, make sure to find the new version you just installed.

    2. Open TSM Tools for Administrators (not Tivoli Storage Manager).
    3. Select Tivoli Storage Manager in the window that appears and click OK.

    4. If this is the first time TSM Backup has run, you will be taken through the TSM Client Configuration Wizard.
      • Note: If you already have a previous version of the software installed, your existing settings can be imported.
    5. To start the configuration process, click Next on the TSM Client Options File Configuration Wizard.

    6. At the Options File Task section, click Next to create a new options file.
      • Note: If you are an existing Bucky Backup user, you can import from an existing options file.

    7. At the TSM Client Node Name section, enter the Node Name you received via email when you registered for the Bucky Backup service. Click Next.

  1. At the TSM Client/Server Communications section, choose TCP/IP and click Next.

  2. At the TCP/IP Options section, enter your Bucky Backup Server Address and Port Number, which you received via email when you registered for the Bucky Backup service. Click Next.
    • Note: The Bucky Backup servers and associated ports are:

  3. You will have the option of modifying other settings, but please just accept the defaults for now and click Next at the TSM Server Stanza, Include/Exclude List, and Common File Exclusion sections.

  4. At the Confirm and Apply your configuration section, click Apply.

  5. The TSM Login window will prompt you. Enter the password you used when you registered. Click Login.
    • Note: If you don't remember your password, please contact the DoIT Help Desk.

  6. Click Finish. You will then see the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager window.

  7. In the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, click Edit --> Client Preferences.
  8. In the Authorization tab, choose the Password Generate radio button. Click OK.

  9. Close the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager.
  10. Open TSM Tools for Administrators (not Tivoli Storage Manager).
  11. Select Start the Client Acceptor Daemon in the window that appears and click OK.

  12. You will be asked for your Mac OS X administrative username and password. Click OK. You should then see a window notifying you that the Client Acceptor Daemon started succesfully. Click OK.

  13. The Bucky Backup client should now be configured and set to run at the scheduled time.
