Web Browsers - Enabling Javascript
This document describes how to enable Javascript on your browser. Some university services (My UW, WiscMail, etc.) requires Javascript for some of their features to function properly.
Follow the listed steps for your browser. The instructions below have been verified to work for all currently supported versions of these browsers as of February 2014.
Windows and Mac
Chrome
- Click on Customize and control Google Chrome (the icon with three stacked horizontal lines) > Settings
- Select the Show advanced settings...
- Under Privacy, click on the Content settings... button.
- Under the Javascript section, verify that Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended) is selected.
Firefox
Javascript is enabled by default. If you would like to disable Javascript, it can be done through about:config. Warning: These are advanced settings and can affect the security of the application. Please be cautious when using this function.
- Enter about:config in the address bar.
- Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue.
- Search or scroll down to javascript.enabled. Double click on this to toggle. If javascript is disabled, value should be set to false.
Windows
Safari (Windows)
- Click on the Gear icon > Preferences.
- Select the Security tab > check Enable JavaScript.
Opera
- Click the Opera button, then click Settings.
- Select Websites on the left side.
- Check Allow all sites to run Javascript.
Internet Explorer
- Select the Tools > Internet Options menu.
- Select the Security tab.
- Click the Custom Level button.
- Select the Scripting > Active Scripting > Enable button.
Mac
Safari
- Select Safari > Preferences.
- Select Security.
- Under Web content, verify that Enable JavaScript is checked.
