Windows 8, 10, and 11 - Finding the IP Number and MAC Address of a Network Card
This document explains how to find the IP number and MAC address of a network card in Windows version 8, 10, and 11.
The Windows 8 and 10
Find the IP number and MAC address of a network card in Windows 8 and 10 by following the instructions below:

Press the Windows Start key to open the Start screen.

Type cmd and press Enter to launch the command prompt.

Note: You do not need to click on anything on the Start screen - typing will automatically initiate a program search.

Type ipconfig /all at the command prompt to check the network card settings.
- The MAC address and IP address are listed under the appropriate adapter as Physical Address and IPv4 Address.
Note: If you do not see the Physical Address and IPv4 Address, type ~ cd at the command prompt, then repeat step 3. - You can copy the Physical Address and IPv4 Address from the command prompt by right clicking in the command prompt and clicking Mark.
- Select the text you want to copy with the mouse and hit the Enter key to copy it. You should now be able to paste the text elsewhere using the standard clipboard "paste" function.
Windows 11
Find the IP number of a network card in Windows 11 by following the instructions below:
- Go to Start and open Settings.
- In the left sidebar, select Network & internet.
- Then, depending on the type of network connection being used, click on either WiFi or Ethernet on the right-hand side menu.
- Click Properties (will typically be preceded by the name of the WiFi network being used).
- Scroll down to the bottom of the technical service list, and locate the IPv6 address and IPv4 address fields, where the IP address can be found.
Find the MAC address of a network card in Windows 11 by following the instructions below:
- Go to Start and open Settings.
- In the left sidebar, select Network & internet.
- Then click the Advanced network settings tab.
- Under the "More settings" section, select Hardware and connection properties.
- Depending on the type of network connection being used, there are two ways to finally locate the MAC address:
- For a WiFi connection, locate the Wi-Fi name; the MAC Address will be listed next to Physical address (MAC).
- For an Ethernet connection, locate the Ethernet name; the MAC Address will be listed next to Physical address (MAC).
- For a WiFi connection, locate the Wi-Fi name; the MAC Address will be listed next to Physical address (MAC).
