Web Hosting - Managing MySQL Databases

On our Linux platforms, MySQL databases and users are created and managed through the Plesk Administrative Control Panel. Additionally, the built-in PHPMyAdmin module can be used for administration.

If you need to connect externally or require a more robust management tool, you can choose from various database management applications.

  1. To establish an external connection, use the same hostname as the website or domain that hosts the MySQL database.
  2. Connections to MySQL on port 3306 are restricted to on-campus IP addresses and WiscVPN connections.
  3. On  restricted data platforms, ports are only accessible locally to the application or specific developer static IPs who are contacts for the account.

Manage MySQL for Linux/Apache based Accounts:

  1. Log in to the Plesk Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to the homepage or select the Websites & Domains tab.
  3. Click on the Databases icon.
    • To add a new MySQL database, click the Add New Database button.
    • To manage database users, click the Database icon. Here, you can add new users or edit existing users for the corresponding database.
    • To manage the database using phpMyAdmin, select the database you want to manage by clicking Select Existing Database (next to the Database icon). You can delete a database or database user by checking the box next to the item you want to delete and clicking the Remove icon.
