ECMS - Enterprise Content Management Service Description
This document explains briefly what the Enterprise Content Management Service provides.
Enterprise Content Management Service Description
A digital document management system called Perceptive Content, from Hyland Software). Perceptive Content is a document repository (files on a file system) with an associated database containing metadata about the files. There is a desktop client and a web client.
The system can be used in a myriad of ways from simple document archiving to full-scale document life-cycle management. For more information see:
Enterprise Content Management.
It is in use on this campus by the Division of Enrollment Management (Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid), Office of Human Resources, University Accounts Payable, and various other departments.
Input into the system can be done in multiple ways: FAX, scanning, eForms (a input form that results in the creation of a document file), and document conversion. Use can be simple or complex as the need dictates.
One of the system's strengths is its ability to route documents via a 'workflow' to individuals who need to make decisions about a document (e.g., an application for admissions or an invoice). See:
Workflow Management
These people have 'queues' they manage via the clients. The clients provide the ability to markup the documents electronically (think here of invoices with receipt date or payed-on date). If you've used WIDSM to view any invoices for a cost center you may have used Perceptive experience to view those invoices.
