Guest UWNet Access
Affiliates
When you first connect to UWNet as an unregistered user and attempt to load a webpage, you should be automatically redirected to a UWNet registration page. This page will offer two options for registration; one for current affiliates of the university and a second option for guests.
If the device does not have a web browser (like a smart TV), UW Madison affiliates can register devices as seen here: Wireless UWNet - Register a Device Without a Browser.
-
Note: The UWNet Wireless registration page also displays information relating to eduroam, an international wireless system for affiliates of partner institutions visiting the UW-Madison campus. This is a separate network from UWNet, and visitors from participating institutions may find this option preferable, as it has added security and only requires initial configuration to automatically connect to eduroam anywhere it is offered.
For more information on eduroam, click the link on the UWNet registration page, or see: eduroam - Accessing and Logging in to eduroam
UW-Madison affiliates with a NetID should enter their NetID and password and accept the Terms of Use to log in. This method will register your computer on the network for the remainder of the current semester, after which point you will need to renew your registration.
Because this method associates your computer's MAC address with a NetID for an entire semester, you should not allow another user to register their NetID on your personal computer, or vice-versa. Doing so may result in one of you losing access to NetID services due to actions performed by the other person.
Guests
While your device is connected to the UWNet wireless network, click the button below to immediately access the Guest Wireless Registration page.
Note: When a guest registers, they will receive a system-generated password in their email.
Guest Wireless Registration Page
If the registration page does not pop-up on your device, open a browser while connected to the UWNet wireless network and navigate to:
https://clearpass.uwnet.wisc.edu/guest/portal-mm.php
To register, you should simply enter your full name and email address. Once you have read and agreed to the Terms of Use, click Create Guest Account to submit your information.
After submitting your email address, you will be taken to a resulting page that will assign you a username and passcode. You will need to make note of these credentials, as they allow you to access UWNet with other devices you may have, such as a smartphone. You are allowed to have up to five concurrent sessions (i.e. five different devices connected at the same time). When you are brought to the UWNet registration screen on another device, you should enter use those credentials in the NetID login fields used by affiliates.
Once you have registered, you will also receive an email with a summary of your login credentials.
- Note: Once you have completed guest registration, you will not be able to do so again, as the system will report that your email address is already in use. If you lose or forget your temporary UWNet credentials, please contact the DoIT Help Desk.
Registering with this method will give your computer access to the network. Your email registration will remain valid as long as you continue to use the network. Please note that failure to provide a valid email address will result in a loss of wireless access.
- Note: If you are looking for a long term wireless solution or for other services see: Getting NetIDs for Affiliate Populations to determine if you are eligible for a Manifest Invited NetID. Which can be used to register using the first method described above. Union members should contact the membership office or speak to someone at a Union front desk. Previously Guest NetID's were also used but this service will be decommissioned by the end of March, 2021.
