Whereas, David Ward has served as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison for nearly eight years;

Whereas, with his return to the faculty, he leaves a legacy of excellence at this institution;

Whereas, he has successfully led an institution to enhance its research preeminence, re-conceptualize undergraduate education, foster global community, and reinforce the importance of the Wisconsin Idea;

Whereas, he has been a guiding force in developing the principles of the shared governance of the University of Wisconsin-Madison by academic staff, faculty, students, and the administration;

Whereas, he has been diligent in nurturing and abiding by those governance principles;

Be it resolved, the members of the UW-Madison Academic Staff Assembly congratulate Chancellor Ward for his years of service and thank him for recognizing us as true partners in the governance of this great world-class university.
