Academic Staff Assembly
Motion to Create a New District 433 for Professionals/Managers in Medical School

February 2003
Districting and Representation Committee

Motion

The Districting and Representation Committee moves that the Academic Staff Assembly create a new district, District 433, for Professionals and Managers in the Medical School.

Background

District 430 is currently comprised of professionals and managers in the Medical School, focused on college functions and primary care areas, and generally located in the Medical Sciences Center (MSC) area. This district has grown well beyond the size parameters (35-75) of the ASPP, and has been at this level for more than a year. As of October 2002, this district had over 100 members. Growth over time supports the creation of a second district.

In collaboration with the current representative, the DRC developed a plan to divide the district into two separate districts of roughly equal size, primarily according to UDDS code.

This proposed change will provide two districts for Medical School professionals and managers involved with college functions and primary care areas. The new district, District 433, will be comprised of those academic staff in the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute, Medicine located on Monroe Street, and all Pediatrics. The existing district, District 430, will be comprised of those academic staff in Medical School Administration, Academic Affairs, Institute on Aging, Medical Physics, Medical School Research Support, and Medicine located at MSC. The resulting size of the two districts will be approximately 48 and 60, respectively.
