UW–Madison USDA NIFA RCR Training Policy
Guidance
The April 2013 Research Terms and Conditions for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) added a responsible conduct of research (RCR) training requirement to specific awards. UW–Madison United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) responsible conduct of research (RCR) training Capacity Fund requirements apply to Hatch Regular, Hatch Multistate, McIntire-Stennis, and Evans-Allen Animal Health awards. Program specific requirements for Hatch Awards, contain language regarding this requirement. Course Registration Information
To register for the course, please use your UW NetID and password to log-in to Canvas. Once logged in, please complete the steps below.
Directions for completing USDA NIFA Training:
- Login to Canvas
- In the upper right corner, click on "Join This Course"
- In the upper right corner, click "Enroll in Course"
- Select "Go To Course" to complete the course now. If you do wish to complete the course at this time, you will need to locate the course on your dashboard.
- Read through all course materials.
- Once you have answered the question, please submit the quiz.
Notice of Training
The Office of Research Policy and Integrity will identify individuals who much complete training via payroll records and will notify individuals of the training requirements.The Office of Research Policy and Integrity will also track training completion.Once an individual is notified of the requirement, he or she will have 30 days to complete the training modules in Canvas. Subsequent email notices will be sent as reminders to complete training. If the individual does not complete the training within the 30 day window, he or she will be removed from the USDA NIFA award and paid with non-sponsored departmental funds.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education created look-up tools to assist PIs and RCR Coordinators with tracking online course completion. Please use your UW NetID and password to log-in.
