Campus Active Directory - ARS - Connecting to ActiveRoles Server

Decommissioned Service

Owing to high maintenance costs and low utilization the Active Directory Services team is discontinuing the ActiveRoles Server (ARS) service effective December 23rd, 2019. This service was used to replicate functionality of Microsoft’s Active Directory Users and Computers as well as enforce campus AD naming conventions outlined here: https://kb.wisc.edu/cads/30600

Once the service is decommissioned Identity and Access Management recommends that you use Microsoft's native tools for the administration of your Organizational Unit (OU). For more information on requirements to use Microsoft’s native tools please refer to this document: https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=96403

Customers that are delegated rights in Campus Active Directory are able to use ActiveRoles Server for administration. The ActiveRoles Server tool may be accessed via a web interface or a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in (Windows users only).

Please note: The ARS service is being sunset on December 23rd, 2019.
