Activity 2: GHG Emissions from Agriculture
The Figure below presents the 2012 emission (teragrams of CO2 eq.) from US Agriculture. Let's analyze and discuss some of the data.
Instructions:
- Please identify the main gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide) associated with each of the five sources of agricultural emissions presented in Figure 6.1.
- The Figure indicates that agriculture contributed 8.1% of all emissions in the US.
- Using India as an example of an emerging economy, please make an educated guess as to the proportional contribution of agriculture to total emissions for India. Would it be lower, the same, or higher than in the U.S. and why?
- Based on what you know about India's agricultural economy, would you expect the same relative proportion of methane and nitrous oxide as displayed in Figure 6.1 for the U.S.? If not, what difference would you expect and why?
