Class 03. Activity 3: Linking Human Values with Food Systems and Climate Change

The Vermeulen et al. abstract says:

"Some synergies among food security, adaptation, and mitigation are feasible. But promising interventions, such as agricultural intensification or reductions in waste, will require careful management to distribute costs and benefits effectively.”

In pairs:

  1. What might we mean by “careful” and what are a few elements of “management”?
(Provide a few phrases or bullets in response to these questions)

  2. Consider the Figure below, on the values underlying the food systems framework.
Which, if any, of these values are reflected in what you think about “careful” and “management?” Provide a paragraph or two that elaborates one or two connections. Refer, if you can, to a real-life (empirical) example.
