Pay-For-Print - Printing from Personal Computers (Linux/Ubuntu)

This document describes the process for printing to a pay-for-print server from personal computers connected to UW-Madison's network.

NOTE: Linux is not directly supported by the DoIT Help Desk. Unless you are using a service which explicitly supports Linux (NetID Login Service and Microsoft 365), the Help Desk can not provide support for Linux, Unix, or any derivative of those (e.g. Ubuntu, SUSE, FreeBSD, or Solaris).     1. Click on the Click Add at the top right corner of the screen and then click on System Settings...

Click Add

    1. Then click on Printers

Click Add

    1. Expand the Network Printers menu and then choose LPD/LPR Host or Printer. Add the Host Name and corresponding Queue and then click Forward.

See Printer Queue Names and Locations to determine what server and queue you want to connect to. The example below is connecting to the Black and White Queue at the BTU InfoLab.

Choose LPD

    1. Make sure Generic is selected and press Forward

First driver

    1. Make sure text-only is selected and press Forward

Second driver

    1. Once finished a new printer will show up in the printer window
