ADS Force Session Logout
The WCER Application Delivery Service (ADS) uses a number of Windows servers to supply virtual access to applications. ADS users are logged into these servers in order for the applications to run, and connected to existing logins when launching applications for which a login exists. Connecting a user to an existing login allows applications to continue running when a user is not connected to them, and also speeds up the process of launching applications by skipping the login and session creation process.
ADS will keep user login sessions active for two or three days of inactivity, after which the ADS session will be logged out. This process is handled by the ADS servers and does not require any user action. However, occasionally there will be problems with a login session that prevent the use of ADS applications.
If you are experiencing either of the following problems, you may have a "bad login" or login session that is not responding to ADS:
- When you attempt to launch an application, you get an error that says "This user is already logged on from a different client".
- When you attempt to launch an application, you see a brief window showing your connection to ADS, but when it completes it disappears without launching an application.
In this case, you may need to force ADS to log out the session that is causing trouble. This can be done by WCER Technical Services, but if you experience this problem outside of WCER Technical Services hours or are unable to contact Technical Services, you can also use the Force Session Logout utility in ADS to perform this task yourself.
To use this utility, log into the WCER ADS web page at https://apps.wceruw.org and click on the link for the "ADS Utilities" folder.
Select the "Force Session Logout" icon in this folder and click on it.
Just like launching any other ADS application, you may be asked to log into the ADS server or to accept a connection. Once you have done this you will see a script window appear briefly as your sessions are logged out.
When the logouts are complete, the window will disappear. Wait 1-2 minutes to make sure all sessions have completed logout and you should be able to launch new applications via ADS.
