Installing Aspen

Aspen is a Windows only program. Summary: Sign the form, borrow the Aspen usb drive, connect to Engineering Licensing VPN, install Aspen using license server: aspen.license.cae.wisc.edu.
  1. Aspen requires a signed license agreement from each student. Print out AspenCheckout.pdf, fill out the form and bring it to Russ Poyner in Engineering Hall room 2037 in order to borrow an Aspen 15 thumb drive.
  2. If you are using a laptop with a wireless connection or an off campus computer you must connect to the Engineering Licensing VPN. Using these instructions
  3. Connect the thumb drive to your computer and double click setup.exe to start the install.
  4. On the splash screen that appears click Install.
  5. On the next screen, click the arrow icon labeled "Install aspenOne products"
  6. Accept the license and click next.
  7. On the "Choose the aspenONE products you want to install" screen, un-check "Process Modeling (Aspen HYSYS)", "Aspen Basic Engineering". "Aspen OptiPlant", and "Server Products and Tools"Aspen Product Selection
  8. The license server is aspen.license.cae.wisc.edu. Type that into the License server box then click Add Server. The license server will show up as license-2.cae.wisc.edu. This is normal.  Click Next. LIcense Server

  9. Click Install Now and be prepared to wait. The install can take an hour or more.
  10. Return the Aspen drive to Russ Poyner in 2037 Engineering Hall, or Claire Massey in 2019 Engineering Hall.
