Account: What is a CAE Account?

Introductory information on CAE account

What does having a CAE account mean?
A CAE account is currently defined as the pair of a login name and password that will grant access to some CAE resources. These resources can be anything from having a login for the Windows or Linux lab workstation to being able to use the College of Engineering VPN service.

Access to each CAE resource is controlled by granting an Access Control List (ACL) entry. There are a number of different ACLs that can be part of a typical account. For example, a typical student/faculty/staff account will have the following ACLs granted to them upon running NEWUSER (account activation):

  • Windows (Active Directory) account
  • Linux account
  • Disk space for files
  • Tethered firewall access

CAE can create an account that will only have access to Lab machines, but no engineering licensed software (Windows only account), for example, or many other customizations that should allow you to get the tools you need without access to other things that might not be allowed.
