Voice Mail - Adding TAR URL to Pop-Up Availability List

This webdoc describes the error when a pop-up blocks a TAR from displaying and how to add the TAR URL to the list of pop-up allowed websites.

TAR reports are displayed in a pop-up window. This display of the window can be blocked by a browser's pop-up blocker. Normally, a browser will give some indication that it is using a pop-up blocker to prevent display of a window but sometimes the hint is very subtle. The report can also be blocked by some toolbar or add-on to the browser.

TAR Website

The TAR (Telephone Activity Report website) website is at: https://voice.services.wisc.edu/webapp

  1. Access to the TAR website requires a NetID/password authentication. You may not be prompted to login if you have already authenticated for another service.

  2. click on the "Report History" link

  3. Verify that DATE is selected and press GET

  4. The list of reports should be displayed

Working Properly

When everything is working correctly, a specific report can be opened as follows:

  1. Double-click on the report title (or single-click the little green box to the left of the report title).

  2. A new window momentarily appears with two buttons in the upper left corner, one says "Run Report" and the other says "Export Report".

note: This window may not appear for all users.

  3. The two button window should disappear and be replaced by another window that contains the report.

Pop-Up Problem

When something is blocking pop-ups, the sequence gets interrupted:

  1. The window with two buttons (Run Report, Export Report) stays displayed. This indicates that a pop-up blocker is preventing the sequence from continuing.

  2. After a brief period, a typical end user will click a button resulting in one of the following error dialog boxes. The errors are rather nonsensical so it is not clear that there is a pop-up blocking issue.

Adding a URL to the List of Pop-Up Allowed Sites

The individual URL of the website can be added or the generic *.wisc.edu to allow all campus related websites to be pop-up enabled. Each web browser has a different way of adding a URL to the allowed list.

Instructions for working with pop-up blockers on various web browsers can be found at: Web Browser Pop-Up Blocking

IT Support Options

Local IT staff should be able to help with this issue and offer advise regarding which sites to allow pop-up access. The DoIT Help Desk is also able to provide assistance with the understanding that with non-DS customers, we are limited to the same access that the computer user has.
