File Sharing: Setting up an FTP client
FTP information
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a no-frills way to get files from computer to computer over the internet or a local network, regardless of the computer platform or operating system. The exchange consists of two entities: a server and a client, which can do a number of operations when connected. CAE recommends the following programs to allow users to move files to and from the CAE servers from other computers.
- Filezilla
- WinSCP
- SFTP on Linux (or via remote SSH connection)
AbsoluteFTP and WS_FTP are NOT recommended because they only use FTP (rather than sftp, or Secure File Transfer Protocol). The CAE server will only allow sFTP connections to ensure the highest security for you and your data. Also, for exclusively Mac users, Mac File Sharing may be a more effective alternative.
