Recycling
This document describes basic material that campus recyles.
Audience
- Entomology, Plant Pathology, and Forest & Wildlife faculty, students, and staff; Hub staff
Overview
Cardboard Recycling
Cardboard can be recycled, but has special locations for pickup:
- Inside building - leave cardboard to be recycled at the elevators on each floor. The building cleaning staff will pick it up in the evening.
- Outside building - put cardboard in the cardboard dumpster located between Russell and Steenbock Library (at the back corner of Steenbock Library) (UW Map).
Please DO NOT:
- Place cardboard in the big blue mixed paper recycling bins.
- Place cardboard in your personal office paper recycling bins.
- Place cardboard directly in the paper recycling dumpster on the Russell loading dock.
Office Paper
- White copy and printer paper (whole or shredded)
- Envelopes (window or windowless)
Mixed Paper Recycling
Acceptable:
- Newspaper
- Magazines
- Colored or lined paper
- Paper bags
- Cartons
- Paper cups (empty and remove lid)
- Cardboard cup sleeves
Not acceptable:
Greasy cardboard, or photo paper
Cans, Glass, Plastic Containers
Acceptable:
- Plastics containers #1-7
- Aluminum and steel cans
- Glass bottles and jars
All materials should be clean. Lids/caps stay on plastic containers. Lids should be off for glass containers.
Not Acceptable:
Plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and single and/or dirty plastic bags.

Information on recycling expanded polystyrene foam (Styrofoam), medications, clothing and shoes, chemicals, hazardous materials, lab waste, large electronic items, batteries and small electronic items, and cell phones can be found on the Office of Sustainability's website.
