Learn@UW - Common Login Errors for UW-Madison
The document describes how UW-Madison users should proceed to resolve common errors that may occur when trying to login to Learn@UW. If you are a user from another campus, refer to Learn@UW - Common Login Errors for Campuses Other than UW-Madison.
Incorrect login URL
If you receive the error message
"Due to a system error, you are unable to log into Learn@UW at this time. Please note the following error message 'Shib Null Data error'"
the most probable causes are:
- Your browser has saved an old version of the login page in its cache. Hold the shift key while pressing your browser's refresh button. If this does not work, try quitting and restarting your browser or enter your browser's settings and manually clearing your cache.
- You have bookmarked an outdated link for logging into Learn@UW. Please go to https://learnuw.wisc.edu and click the "UW NetID Login" to continue. Delete your bookmark.
Internal Server (HTML 500) Error
If you receive an internal server (HTML 500) error early in the morning, see Learn@UW - Possible Problem with Early Morning Logins and Other Functions
You may also receive an internal server (HTML 500) error if you try to access the Learn@UW application within 48 hours of your NetID activation.
Invalid User Name or Password
If you receive the error message"Invalid User Name / Password. You will be taken back to the login page."the most probable causes are either you entered an incorrect username or password, or your user account is inactive.
Note that passwords are case-sensitive.

Error Processing Requested Page
If you receive the error message"There was an error processing the page you requested."the most probable cause is that you are not enrolled in the organization. Login problems may occur if you have been enrolled at the course level but not at the org (organization) level.

Account is Locked Out
If you receive an error message"The account you are trying to access has been locked out"you have attempted to login with an invalid username/password combination several times within a short period of time and your account has been locked.
Wait a few minutes and try to login again.

To change the security settings:
- Go to Tools
->Internet Options, click on the Security tab and change the security level to Medium or possibly Medium-High.
- In Tools
->Internet Options, click on the Privacy tab and change the privacy level to Medium.
- Go to Tools
- Click Privacy near the top.
- Ensure that "Accept cookies from sites" is checked.
