NS-WAN Team Meeting Minutes 1-12-17
Attendees: Mike Blodgett, Will Boettcher, Pat Christian, Tim Czerwonka, Michael Hare, Bill Jensen, Paul Nazario, Dan Parenteau
1. DNS/DHCP project update (Kudos & quick status)
* Congrats & good work
* Cleanup & completion of phase 1 work underway
* Planning for phase 2 underway
2. CAIDA scans on NS-LAN (mv to campus border?)
Mike B running raspberry-pi (unmanaged) probe on trusted network, Dale’s old ATLAS-RIPE probe
If there isn’t significant value to evaluating NS-LAN, consider moving this to the 4500X attached to CSSC border (ASR9k); Mike will move the CAIDA device to the campus border
Consider developing separate network for probe/unmanaged devices attaching to network (table for future discussion)
3. 100Gbps ASR 9k card & Animal vs CSSC termination (research wave)
Mike B researched this issue here & found old 100Gbps crashing issue was due to software bug (that’s been fixed)
New higher density line rate 100Gbps cards require fabric upgrades
Is card available via 3rd party market
Have to have spare for a new card
Need to think about CFP optics pricing vs QSFP28 or CPAK (CFP-2)
Discussion surrounding current vs. future campus network capability to deliver 10Gbps+ flows
Trying to rearchitect campus/research network to Animal is much more work so strong preference is to keep 100Gbps research path out of CSSC
4. Google peering @ MICE
* Discussion tabled until next meeting
5. UWO SysNet rack lift (1/23)
Dan spoke with UWO (Dan Peterson); built frame around our rack & are securing top
Dan P’s analysis is to NOT send anyone to UWO; Dan P will provide WEJ’s cell # to call if there’s any concerns
6. SysNet & AT&T update
* Pat note UW-System is having discussion with AT&T about services UW can purchase to reduce Centrex voice service rate increases. May involve SysNet buying AT&T transit among other things.
