Disabling the SSDP Service on Lanier and Ricoh Multi-Function Devices
This document explains how to disable the SSDP service on Lanier and Ricoh multi-function devices. Bugs in the SSDP service of multi-function printers have caused network problems on campus.
Note: Not all Lanier and Ricoh printers are SSDP capable, typically only the Multi-Function Devices.
Disabling the SSDP Service Through the Web Interface
- Open a web browser and go to the URL of the printer's IP address or hostname.
- Click the Login button.
- Enter the admin account credentials at the prompt.
- The default password varies by model number, but is usually either "password" or left blank.
- Be sure to set a password for the printer if you have not already done so.
- Navigate to the Configuration -> Network -> SSDP menu.
- Change the SSDP radio button to Disable and then click the Apply button.
- Click the OK button at the configuration update page (it does not auto-refresh).
- Verify that SSDP is disabled and then logout of the web interface.
Disabling the SSDP Service Through the Command Line Interface (CLI)
- Telnet to the printer's IP address or hostname.
- Login with the admin account credentials.
- The default password varies by model number, but is usually either "password" or left blank.
- Be sure to set a password for the printer if you have not already done so.
- At the msh> prompt enter the command "set ssdp down".
- Enter the command "logout" to exit the CLI.
- Enter yes at the prompt to save the configuration data.
