AANTS: The WiscnicUpdate Tool
This document gives a general overview of the new WiscnicUpdate.cgi tool for creating, modifying and deleting records in the MySQL version of the WiscNIC database.
The main screen of the WiscnicUpdate.cgi tool offers the user many possible actions, depending on the user's privilege level:
User Contact Information
- Add or Modify Wiscnic Contact Info
- Add a technical contact to a VLAN or subnet I administer
- Remove a technical contact from a VLAN or subnet I administer
- Delete a person from WiscNIC
Use this option to add yourself or someone else to WiscNIC, or to update your contact information.
Administrative contacts for a subnet or VLAN can add other users as technical contacts for the subnets or VLANs they administer. This will grant the user access to that subnet and/or VLAN in AANTS.
Administrative contacts for a subnet or VLAN can remove technical contacts from the subnets or VLANs they administer.
Authorized users can remove users from WiscNIC. Deleted users will be removed from any VLAN, role, or subnet records they are on, then their contact information will be purged from the database.
Subnet Records
- Add a subnet to WiscNIC
- Modify an existing subnet in WiscNIC
- Delete a subnet from WiscNIC
Authorized users can add a new subnet record to WiscNIC.
Authorized users can modify existing subnet records using this function.
Authorized users can delete an existing subnet record from WiscNIC using this function. Any route records containing the subnet will also be deleted, all administrative and technical contacts are disassociated from the subnet, and finally the subnet information is purged from the WiscNIC database.
VLAN Records
- Add a VLAN to WiscNIC
- Modify an existing VLAN in WiscNIC
- Delete a VLAN from WiscNIC
Authorized users can add a new VLAN record to WiscNIC.
Authorized users can modify existing VLAN records using this function.
Authorized users can delete an existing VLAN record from WiscNIC using this function. Any route records containing the VLAN will also be deleted, all administrative and technical contacts are disassociated from the VLAN, and finally the VLAN information is purged from the WiscNIC database.
Route Records
- Add a route to WiscNIC
- Modify an existing route in WiscNIC
- Delete a route from WiscNIC
Authorized users can add a new route record to WiscNIC which will associate a subnet with an origin VLAN.
Authorized users can modify existing route records using this function.
Authorized users can delete an existing route record from WiscNIC using this function. The route information will be purged from the WiscNIC database disassociating the subnet from the origin VLAN.
VLAN Block Records
- Add a VLAN block to WiscNIC
- Modify an existing VLAN block in WiscNIC
- Delete a VLAN block from WiscNIC
Authorized users can add a new VLAN block record to WiscNIC which will associate a subnet with an origin VLAN.
Authorized users can modify existing VLAN block records using this function.
Authorized users can modify existing VLAN block records using this function. VLAN records contained in the VLAN block will NOT be deleted automatically.
Text Entry Mode
- Enter WiscNIC text-entry mode
This mode allows the user to input properly-formatted text (up to 1100 characters, which is a web-server limitation) to the WiscNIC database to perform insertions, modifications and deletions. See KB article 6806 for the syntax to use with this mode.
