AANTS: The WiscnicSearch Tool

This document gives a general overview of the new WiscnicSearch.cgi tool for querying the MySQL version of the WiscNIC database.

WiscnicSearch.cgi WiscNIC was originally based on the whois protocol but is now in a SQL database, the format of WiscNIC text records is heavily inspired by whois.

Search Options

Autodetect

The default mode is to autodetect the type of data input, a VLAN record, an IPv4 or IPv6 Subnet, WiscNIC Handle or NetID based on the query input. All avaialble data will be returned in the result options

IP Address

IP Address records will be searched and only WiscNIC Subnet records will be displayed in the results

Regular Expressions

A regular expression search through the records, names, descriptions will be performed. By default all record types will be searched and all available data will be returned in the results.

Subnet

A search through WiscNIC Subnet records with immediate results as you type to select an individual record to query. By default associated Contacts, Routes, VLANs and of course Subnet records will be displayed in the results.

User Name

A search through WiscNIC Contact records based on a persons name with immediate results as you type to select an individual record to query. By default associated EdgeConf Devices, Subnets, VLANs and of course Contact records will be displayed in the results

NetID

A search through WiscNIC Contact records based on a persons NetID with immediate results as you type to select an individual record to query. By default associated EdgeConf Devices, Subnets, VLANs and of course Contact records will be displayed in the results

NIC Handle

A search through WiscNIC Contact records based on a persons WiscNIC Handle with immediate results as you type to select an individual record to query. By default associated EdgeConf Devices, Subnets, VLANs and of course Contact records will be displayed in the results

VLAN

A search through WiscNIC VLAN records with immediate results as you type to select an individual record to query. By default associated Bridge, Contacts, EdgeConf Devices, Routes, Subnets, VRFs and of course VLAN records will be displayed in the results.

VRF

A search through WiscNIC VRF records with immediate results as you type to select an individual record to query. By default associated Bridge, Contacts, EdgeConf Devices, Routes, Subnets, VLANs, and of course VRF records will be displayed in the results.

Modifers

Case Insensitive

Case insensitivity is selected by default and is relevant for some search types, toggle off if you want to enforce a case sensitive search

Strict

When querying WiscNIC Subnet records the default is to only query the exact record being searched for, but if strict is unchecked then the hierarchy of parent and child subnets are also queried and returned.

Search de-authed users

An optional parameter which will display contact information for disabled WiscNIC handles rather than active ones, to identify historical access or users which should be re-enabled.

Search deleted VLANs

An optional parameter which allows VLAN records to be searched in the audit history that are no longer active in the database, to reconstruct historical usage and aid in configuration or documentation reconciliation

Result Options

Display associated WiscNIC Bridge, Contact, EdgeConf Device, Route, Subnet, VLAN and VRF records. Output can be formatted in a table or as whois-style WiscNIC text records, with and without embedded formatting and links
