Surface - Current Repair Workflow

This document briefly outlines our current workflow for Microsoft Surface repairs.

DoIT is no longer handling Surface repairs for non-software issues.  Software work will continue to be done on a ‘best effort’ basis.

If you need a repair done on your Surface, Microsoft has several different repair paths, depending if this is a personal or business (UW owned) machine.
Your first step is to check the warranty status.
Microsoft warranty:
This link is to the Surface for Business warranty check, but it will work in either case.  Simply put in the entire serial number, including the leading 0s, and fill out the “I am not a robot” test.

After you know your warranty status, go to this link:

Surface for Business (UW Owned or owned by another business):

Go to <submit your service request>
Personally owned Surface:

Safeware warranty:
Safeware warranties are third party warranties that were previously sold through the Tech Store. You can check to see if the computer has safeware coverage here: if the warranty was registered.

Start a Safeware warranty case here <> then wait for instructions from Safeware. They may direct you to bring the computer into a local repair service or contact Microsoft to set up an out of warranty repair that they will reimburse you for.
