Advanced Content Authoring and Reporting - Canvas test student account can't view ACAR material in Canvas [UW-Madison]
Pressbooks can be used to author and host basic course content with interactivity as well as more advanced content authoring and reporting (ACAR) features (such as H5P activities, Hypothes.is annotations and reporting).
If you're interested in these advanced content authoring and reporting features, we highly recommended requesting a consultation from the Learn@UW-Madison team to help you get started.
This document outlines an existing issue where some Canvas test student accounts cannot view Pressbooks content or Storyline modules embedded in Canvas using the Advanced Content Authoring and Reporting (ACAR) solution.
When an instructor into Canvas with a test student account in the form of FirstnameLastname.test and tries to load a Pressbooks or Storyline module, they may see an error if that account hasn't been set up properly. This error will typically read as "Canvas ID provided to LTI tool ("FirstnameLastname.test") is not a valid email address."

Affects
This effects instructors who have Canvas test student accounts from Learn@UW-Madison which haven't been configured to work with ACAR content.
Status
As of 10/10/2022, this issue still exists.
Workaround
In order to address the issue, you will need your test student account to be properly configured to work with ACAR content. You can request that change by contacting the DoIT Help Desk. DoIT Staff will then update the test account to include the needed real or fake email (e.g., FirstNameLastNameTest@wisc.edu).
