Symantec Endpoint Protection (Win) - Determining If Your Client is Managed vs. Unmanaged

This document explains how you can determine whether your computer is running a managed or unmanaged version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

  1. Double-click on the yellow SEP shield in the task tray. If the icon is hidden, click on the arrow to the left of your task tray icons to reveal it.

    Notification Area Icon

  2. From any of the screens in the SEP interface, click on the Help button in the upper right-hand corner and select Troubleshooting... from the dropdown menu.

The Help button is located in the upper right-hand corner

  3. Verify that Management has been selected on the left and look at the General Information section.

    • If the client is unmanaged, you will just see a line identifying it as "Self-managed," pictured below:

An unmanaged client is labed as self-managed under General Information

    • If the client is managed, you will see several pieces of information listed on this screen, the most relevant of which are the Server and Group. If you are unsure of who your administrator is based on this information, contact your local IT support for assistance.

A managed client will display information on the server and group that is managing your client
