Advanced Content Authoring and Reporting - Pressbooks Updates and Changelog

Pressbooks is an innovative, open-source tool and is still emerging as an enterprise-level platform with predictable performance. Please take this into account when deciding to use Pressbooks for the creation of course and assignment materials. Learn@UW-Madison continues to track and document known issues with Pressbooks.

This kb document lists changes and updates related to components in UW-Madison's wisc.pb.unizin.org instance of pressbooks which is used for Advanced Content Authoring and Reporting (ACAR).

ADVANCED CONTENT AUTHORING AND REPORTING - PRESSBOOKS UPDATES AND CHANGELOG

This document provides information for updates and changes applied to the main components which make up the Pressbooks Advanced Content Authoring and Reporting (ACAR) solution. This document pertains specifically to the wisc.pb.unizin.org instance of pressbooks as instance which is supported by pressbooks.com and provided to us as a member of the Unizin consortium. Instances at other Unizin member institutions or non-Unizin institutions may vary considerably from our setup.

For reference the components described here are:
  1. Wordpress. The open source content management system which is the backbone of around 33.5% of all websites. 
  2. Pressbooks. Pressbooks is an open-source wordpress plugin which transforms wordpress instances into a one-stop book authoring, hosting, and exporting platform for ebooks. 
  3. McLuhan. The primary theme used in our instance of pressbooks which controls the look and feel of the pressbooks hosted there.
  4. H5P. The plugin which allows for the authoring of H5P elements in pressbooks
  5. Hypothes.is. A plugin which allows for the creation of annotations in pressbooks
