Canvas - Known Issue - Internet Explorer Unsupported

Instructure has ended support for the use of the Internet Explorer browser with Canvas and has blocked access from IE to all instances of Canvas.

Attempting to access Canvas at UW-Madison with Internet Explorer will result in a blank screen with the following message: "You're using Internet Explorer, which is not supported. To use Canvas, you need to use a newer, more modern browser." An example of this screen is shown below.

Affects

All users trying to access Canvas via the Internet Explorer browser.

Status

This issue is present as of August 30, 2019. The vendor does not have any current plans to roll back the changes.

Workaround

Users who are able should switch to a supported browser. A list of support browsers for use with Canvas are available here: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10720
