L&S Recommended Summer Sessions for Course Scheduling
This document provides guidance regarding sessions for summer course scheduling in the College of Letters & Science. This was last updated in September 16th, 2024 — summer session dates have been updated for Summer 2026.
Important information for Summer 2026
Special permission is required from L&S Teaching & Learning Administration to offer an undergraduate course in a session that ends after 8/09/2026.
Summer Course Scheduling
Summer Term 2026 undergraduate courses should be scheduled for sessions entirely within the ranges 5/18/2026 and 8/09/2026.
Below is the list of recommended sessions (updated for Summer 2025):
# of Weeks | Code | Start | End |
---|---|---|---|
4-week | ZDD | 5/18/26 | 6/14/26 |
4-week | DDD | 6/15/26 | 7/12/26 |
4-week | HDD | 7/13/26 | 8/09/26 |
6-week | ZFF | 5/18/26 | 6/28/26 |
6-week | FFF | 6/29/26 | 8/09/26 |
8-week | DHH | 6/15/26 | 8/09/26 |
- Choosing other terms may be problematic for students, and thus discourage enrollment.
- Do not use early sessions (with session code beginning 'Y') or late sessions (sessions ending later than the general 8-week 'DHH' session). These sessions fall outside of the Summer Term calendar and impact student grading and end-of-term actions (e.g., drops, academic standing). Some of these sessions overlap with spring/fall faculty contract dates, and will create HR/payroll issues for instructors and Teaching Assistants.
