The Arthur H. Robinson Map Library, a sub-unit of the Department of Geography, provides a comprehensive collection of cartographic materials to support teaching and research on the Madison campus. The Map Library is named for Arthur H. Robinson, the well-known cartographer who taught on the campus from 1945 until he retired in 1980.
The primary materials in the Map Library are maps, approximately 280,000; historic aerial photographs, approximately 260,000; and aerial photograph mosaic indexes, approximately 3,000. Special collections provide detailed coverage for selected areas.
Users can make appointments with the Map/GIS librarian for one-on-one assistance with locating geospatial data. Contact Jaime Martindale (Librarian) for more information, or to make an appointment: (608) 262-1471. Please see the Map Library's GIS Page for more information.
The library is open to members of the UW community, and is open to the general public for reference use. Library materials may be borrowed by the general public with a GLS deposit library card or by special arrangement. (To obtain a GLS card, contact Memorial Library Circulation Desk at 608-263-7360.)
